A recent Tavour purchase that I bought simply on the back of it being a 4.2% bitter (of sorts).
Good garnet, mid-brown pour with some good clarity. Decent head, some lace.
Big whiff and initial tastes that include bitter oaty note. Good in as much as it is doing what it says on the can. Some decent balance with things being slightly on the bitter side. No problem, but it’s a bit drier than I would like in any type of bitter. Some toffee but a type that lacks sweetness. Slightly burned caramel is ther too.
It’s pretty clean even if it is too dry for me, and it’s pretty earthy. The real problem here is that in terms of relatively low ABV, English styled beers I have to take what I can get. This means that I compelled to try beers such as this one even if it comes up a little short – beggars can’t be choosers.
It’s not bad at all, but the words “English” and “bitter” (as in the beer style, not the flavor profile) are doing quite a lot of lifting here, It has potential, but it would likely be oh so much better if it was simply “an English Bitter” without the messing around.
