Mid-golden pour, perfect clarity, fluffy white head with some nice, sticky lace. All as expected for the style.
Great, complex malt nose that promises depth.
It’s quite sweet up front but perhaps paradoxically very clean. No muddiness here. As we enter the first tastes the sweetness backs off to give a really beautiful, fruity and smooth experience. I’ve seen people call it ‘nutty’, and I can see where one might get that, but it’s very hard to pin down. A little alcohol, plenty of malts, and a really easy drinking smooth feel. It’s a definitive German Märzen, with some real depth.
For me the beer’s calling card is the depth of flavor. This is in no way superficial. Grains are of course the feature, but the beer backs everything up with really a really nice body and good presence. The malt backbone is as hoped, impeccable – very strong.
Lovely, satisfying experience.
