Came across this on a recent trip to Northern Michigan and I have to admit that I didn’t know that DAB made a Maibock. Since this is a style that I really enjoy it was a simply decision to pick it up. $2.19 for the 500mL can.
Very standard, golden pour with great clarity. Color is as expected. Head is good, retention and lace about what I expected but not great on either front – not terrible, but not great either.
Again a standard, sweet grainy nose. Mouthfeel is of a similar, predictable nature, and the beer feels light and drinkable.
A touch of hop bitterness sits alongside the malty base, which again means you’re dealing with a simply focused beer in style. A few light bitter notes, but this is not a Maibock with a lot of presence in terms of its malt base. Maibocks are perhaps the quintessential style that simultaneously showcases both malts and hops together and this comes up a little short in both departments for me.
There are better Maibocks out there, but then again there aren’t a TON of them easily available either, so as long as such a beer largely falls into style parameters I will put up with a few shortcomings. That’s where I am with this beer.

Hey Ding! Found this blog by accident and oddly enough on the same day I bought a 4 pack of DAB Maibock. Here in Jersey it ran just over six bucks for the most part.
Like yourself, I was a bit underwhelmed with the beer.
A little too hot in the alcohol feel, kind of like downing a shot of Jim Beam.
Surprisingly light on the malt; just a bit too unbalanced all around for my taste.
Keep up the good work! Glad I found the website.
Thanks for checking-in. Hope to see you around some more.
