Bon Secours Héritage
4.50 out of 5.00 | Excellent

It’s possible that this beer may have been called Ambree in the past – not sure, more research needed, and I don’t know (formally) what style it is.

Mid-copper body with some chill-haze below a high, generous head. Lace and retention are wonderful.

Nose is exceptionally fruity which isn’t quite replicated in the tastes. The initial palate is drier, earthier, and less fruit-forward than the nose might suggest. Plenty of solid malts back up some gentle bitterness. Mid and back end of the palate (along with the aftertastes) offer some surprising alcohol that wasn’t necessarily obvious upfront. Light, warming burn follows.

There’s a touch more solvent than I was expecting, but to be fair this is an 8% beer, so perhaps I should have been anticipating it somewhat.

This is a pretty interesting beer that walks some fine lines around more than one taste profile. There are malts, a drying earthy nature, a lot of fruit, and then the solvent element. I would actually describe it as quite complex, and it’s a little more involved than I thought it might be. I could do without the earthy element if I’m honest, but as I say it adds to the complexity.

Not an easy beer, but a good one. A beer for the deeper thinkers amongst us.
