The usual Bon Secours presentation with the flip-top.
Solid, mid to dark brown pour with a decent head. Retention good, some lace but limited.
Nose offers some light, sweetish mocha. and some roasted notes. Nicely balanced with some malty alcohol being the significant take-away here. The alcohol is noticeable (in a good way), and it provides a touch of warmth. Back-end and finish are each a little drier than I was expecting given that malty start. Alcohol lingers a bit too.
Not a huge amount of Belgian yeast character here for me, and if it weren’t for the hops taking a back-seat, the first inclination might be to think this was a boozy, American Imperial Brown. As it is, the beer drinks sweet enough to stay away from that.
Some people would call this a Belgian Brown Ale, and that wouldn’t be a bad descriptor TBH.
In the end this is pretty drinkable, and very tasty. Happy to have tried it, I’d even get it again.
