Wheat Beer w/Brett

11.2oz bottle, BB 24 NOV 25, Dry Hopped Wheat Beer with Brett.

Difficult to resist a collaboration between these two, but it has to be send that collaborations very often fail to meet the (often unrealistic) raised expectations.

Clouded, lemon colored body with a small, but quite persistent head. The thin film lingers and there is a little lace. Looks goos.

Light acidity on the nose with some gentle funk. Cider-like. Smells cleanish, and pretty tight.

Very soft mouthfeel opens up to light bitterness with a touch of funk and some light citrus. Acidity is present but restrained. Some yeasty and bread notes come through quite strongly. This isn’t as clean as some Wits, but that doesn’t make it bad, it’s just makes it a little more yeasty and grainy than others. In the far backend some increased hop bitterness pops its head above the parapet and the fruit (peach and melon) recedes a bit, but it’s not pronounced. Alcohol is reserved, appropriately.

Beautifully brewed (thesis an absolute signature of De La Senne), but a little atypical for a Wit IMO. It drinks easily, soft and gentle, but ultimately not especially memorable. In my experience this is the nature of many collaborations. Expectations are raised enormously with these two brewers, and on paper this seems lie it would be magnificent, but that’s a hard bar to reach and it never quite gets there. Somehow, oddly it ends up being a little less than the sum of its parts for me, and my relatively high scores feel like a bit of a paradox.
