A bourbon BA Wild Ale? Why?
Honey colored pour. Considering the ABV, a better head and retention/ lace than I was expecting.
I have to say that when I bought this at $23.99 I didn’t realize it was bourbon-aged. Not really my cup of tea, especially when IMO it’s of a style that has no business in the barrel. Why not just make a great wild/sour ale – I don’t see the need for constant tinkering.
Nose offers some liquor like sweetness which carries through to the initial tastes. With more warming and in the back end we start to get a little of the Brett character, but it’s an odd combo and neither really comes together properly. I thought the combo would be horrible, but it isn’t, however I still prefer one or the other.
ABV is incredibly well hidden.
In the end this wasn’t as bad as thought it was going to be, but nevertheless I still don’t really see the point. Why not make a great wild ale and leave it at that?
