12 oz pour, J K O’Donnel’s, Fort Wayne, IN.
Happy to stumble across this purely by chance on a random Tuesday afternoon.
Great clarity on the mid-orange pour.
Some lace, light film on the surface. As expected. The nose has a surprising, stinky cheese note which I wasn’t anticipating. The hop aroma here is a little odd. Lightly oily in the mouth, a little slick, but again approriate.
Tastes are dank, but not at all aggressive. Bitter, quite green. Clean and a lingering sweetness evens things out. This is well balanced, and is a bit is a throwback beer for Stone. Alcohol is there, but drinks a bit below 9.7%, at least in terms of burn and presence. Light onion notes, that’s real old school.
A lovely beer and reminiscent of old times at Stone – I HATE the term “West Coast IPA” since it’s come to mean things that it really should not, but this is one of those original beers. I wasn’t expecting a beer like this from Stone in 2022, but this was a very nice surprise. Happy to have had the opportunity.
