Disappointingly (but predictably), the label refers to this being a ‘session beer’, which at 5% it most definitely is NOT.
Hazed and cloudy body with a pale white, half finger head.
Nose and tastes have some significant hop character, and if this were a British beer it would most definitely start to feel like an IPA rather than a Pale Ale. Quite a dry beer with emphasis on a few earthy hops and a bit of an organic, grassy feel. Some fairly significant yeast overtones as well. A very bready beer but strangely (and somewhat paradoxically) without showcasing much malt – difficult for me to pin down, actually!
The beer drinks with plenty of hay notes and some significant edginess – no malt forward character here for me. A touch of grapefruit bitterness in the back end, but the grassy nature of the beer is what dominates for me.
Clearly a well made beer, but frankly not really my cup of tea. The annoying and inaccurate reference to session beer on the label only serves to turn me against the beer. Shout out to Kevin for the chance to try this beer – cheers, mate.
