Commercial description, here.
11.2 fl oz bottle, wrapped in black rather than white. A lighter colored beer than the original, the light amber pour comes with better than expected (considering the ABV), white head. Thin creamy film persists on the surface, little lace.
Solvent alcohol is more prevalent in the tastes than the nose, and a mild burn on the way down. With the alcohol we get a bitterness that is a little surprising.
Fruit is there, but not big and tinged with a lot of EtOH. Perfectly acceptable. Maybe some pineapple, a little pear, but it is certainly heavily ester influenced. Having said that, the alcohol wins every battle for the senses. There’s obviously a lot less caramel, toffee rounded notes here than the original, and we get a well-defined alcohol delivery vehicles with a pretty high level of drinkability. Less sweetness (obviously) than the original.
The mouthfeel is perhaps the most surprising thing about this beer. Despite the huge alcohol, the beer remains light, drinkable and not remotely viscous. Quite the surprise, and quite the feat to pull that off in a beer of this size and nature.
Dry, alcohol laden finish – appropriate and expected. The clean lines of the beer add to the vinous character that one does not see in the original, but there is a distinct, yeasty feel about the aftertaste.
