22 oz bottle, $7.99. First in an apparent series of multiple anniversary brews (according to the label)
The type of beer that Highland generally does very well so I enter with some confidence and it made me comfortable to take a punt on this.
Pour is somewhere between black and bronze depending on how the light hits it.
Nose has light, simple malts.
Solid, if modest, ivory white head. Lace average, retention average.
I’m always fairly pleased when there isn’t much to report about a beer. It means it’s stylistically correct. Medium sweetness and some lighter, chocolate rounded notes. Chocolate character a little more noticeable on the back end. Seems a little odd for beer of this profile, but it works.
Scottish and American malts and English Fuggles.
Decent depth of malt, but at the same time not overpowering. Lots of alcohol, but it’s in order.
