Sweetwater Brewing Co., Danktoberfest

Ding Points: 58.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 60.00, Palate: 50.00, Mouth: 70.00, Global: 50.00 Tasting Notes: The latest in the Dank Tank series. Blue and white checkered motif in a nod to the Bavarian flag. Pretty good looking beer, with a nice, red-amber hue and a decent, off-white head. Retention of the head is pretty average, and there is little or no lace. Nose is appropriately malty, but it does seems to have a hint of hoppy bitterness (this is a pre-cursor to some of the problems with the...

Beer Review: Sweetwater Brewing Co., LowRYEder IPA

Ding Points: 80.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 80.00, Plate: 80.00, Mouth: 80.00, Global: 80.00 Tasting Notes: I am assuming that this is a re-birth of the Crank Tank Rye'd Ale from the fall of 2010 (I've included my review of the 22 oz bottles of that, at the end of this review). I've got to be honest right off the bat here, I generally do NOT like rye beers. The harsh, bitter, peppery notes that the spice delivers is usually not to my taste at all, and their brash nature seldom sits well with me....

Beer Review: Sweetwater Brewing Co., Dank Tank 420 India Pale Ale

Ding Points: 81.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 80.00, Palate: 80.00, Mouth: 70.00, Global: 90.00 Tasting Notes. OK, so I suppose this setting out to be a combination of 420 and IPA, merged for the latest in the Dank Tank Series. The usual presentatin for the series, this time coming with a sort of retro-blue and yellow color scheme. Pour is a fairly bright, orange affair with a nice, white head. Some decent lace and retention. Nose is strong. Big, clean citrus lines with some sweetness. Some added...

Beer Review: Sweetwater Brewing Co., Fresh Sticky Nugs (Fresh Dry Hopped Double Red Ale)

Ding Points: 91.50 Pour: 90.00, Nose: 100.00, Palate: 90.00, Mouth: 90.00, Global: 90.00 Tasting Notes: 22 oz bottle, the latest in the Dank Tank series, this time with a red, yellow and green motif. It's difficult to keep up with the amount of beer being produced of late, especially in the what has now become, quite prolific Dank Tank Series. The pour gives a nice 'gloop, gloop' sound as it forms a chestnut brown color (rather than especially 'red') with some lovely head, and some great,...

Beer Review: Sweetwater Brewing Company, Waterkeeper hefeweizen ale

Ding Points = 73.50 Pour: 70, Nose: 80, Palate: 70, Feel: 70, Global: 80 Tasting Notes: Another 22 oz, one-off (presumably) offering from the Sweetwater Brewing Co., that for my money have eclipsed Terrapin in their ability to produce a consistent, high quality special release beers. The usual Sweetwater presentation with screen printed bottle; at least this time there isn't a bunch of juvenile, sophomoric innuendo associated with the beer - a nice change! Deliberately poured this one...
