Beer Review: Shmaltz Brewing Company, He’Brew Miraculous Jewbelation 8

Ding Points: 74.50 Pour: 70.00, Nose: 80.00, Palate: 80.00, Mouth: 60.00, Global: 70.00 Tasting Notes: The back story to this beer is that I missed out on it when it was first released (late 2004), but subsequently enjoyed many of the other Jewbelation offerings. As a result, for many years this was on my 'Want List' on beeradvocate. It was after I had long given up hope of ever getting 8, that Shmaltz re-brewed and re-released it in the 12 oz bottle in the mixed pack almost two years ago....

Beer Review: Shmaltz Brewing Company, Funky Jewbelation

Ding Points: 41.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 60.00, Palate: 20.00, Mouth: 60.00, Global: 30.00 Tasting Notes: Barrel Aged Release#6, apparently a combination of; Jewbelation 15 (3 months old), Vintage Jewbelation (9 months), Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA (1 month), Origin (14 moths), Reunion '11 (7 months), Messiah (14 months). 73% Rye Whiskey Barrels, 27% Bourbon Barrels. Pours as expected with a black body and a initially decent, mocha head. The head fades and leaves a typical, creamy, spotty film but...

Beer Review: Shmaltz Brewing Company, Hop Manna IPA

Ding Points: 80.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 80.00, Palate: 80.00, Mouth: 80.00, Global: 80.00 Tasting Notes: I have to say that I approach Hop Manna with a little trepidation, since although I generally have really enjoyed Shmaltz beers over the years, all of their power seems to have been wielded at the malt end of the spectrum and not with hops. That's also where my general preference lies, so this is a bit of a departure for them, and a beer in style that I don't often pick up these days. That...

Beer Review: Shmaltz Brewing Company, Genesis 15:15 Barrel Aged Harvest Barleywine Ale

Ding Points: 86.50 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 90.00, Palate: 90.00, Mouth: 90.00, Global: 80.00 Tasting Notes: Batch 001, 791 cases, bottling date 9/7/2011 all noted in detail on the neck label. 22oz bottle from Mac's Midtwon, Atlanta, GA, USA. Shmaltz is a brewer I have come to enjoy very much, if for no other reason than the fact that they generally favor the maltier side of the spectrum which usually suits me more than the other end of things. Very dark chestnut (close to black) pour which provides...

Beer Review: Shmaltz & Terrapin Beer Co., (A Beer For Hope) Reunion Ale ’11

Ding Points: 73.00 Pour: 80.00, Nose: 80.00, Palate: 70.00, Mouth: 70.00, Global: 70.00 Tasting Notes: Another beer in the charitable, reunion series. 22 oz bottle. A 'Dark Imperial Ale' whatever THAT is! This is the Shmaltz version. This should be interesting since Shmaltz is one of my favorite brewers with their malt based offerings, and Terrapin's star has been fading quite badly in my eyes over the last couple of years - too many beers, in too short a time has bred some mediocrity. Nice...
