Notes on beers brewed by

Ayinger Weizenbock

Ayinger Weizenbock

Additional notes 2/8/23 (pictured) Gratified that the beer goes into the same glass that it did 11 years ago. In fact there's something poetic about that, because all of the notes that I made back then (below) are essentially reflected in this 2023 bottle and pour. Still rich, still great alcohol presence and typical flavor notes. Nothing but pleasure. Original notes 11/07/2009 Unexpected (but welcome), recent arrival at Hop City, Atlanta, GA, USA. 500 mL bottle. Poured into the Tucher Weizen...

Ayinger Bräu Weisse (Bräuweisse)

Ayinger Bräu Weisse (Bräuweisse)

Additional notes 09/16/2022 (bottle pictured) Amazingly (maybe), 14 years later, this bottle goes into exactly the same glass! Head, lace and retention are better than previously noted. Prickly carbonation, simple, classic taste profile. Original notes 10/18/2008 Fairly astonished that I have not reviewed this until now! $2.99 Green's on Ponce, Atlanta, GA, USA. 500 mL bottle, standard Ayinger presentation. Fine bubbled head that lacks density on the pour. Into the Tucher Weizen glass. Dark...

Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel

Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel

Additional notes: 09/20/2022 Astonishing effect of the light on the beer (pictured) that causes the red color through the dark brown body. My notes below don't do this beer justice, and I like it much better these days. In particular I feel a real richness about the beer which belies my final paragraph. Here I find rich malts, a depth of flavor that I obviously didn't see 16 years ago, and a nice, woody bitterness that I did note but seems prominent in way it wasn't previously. Some toffee,...

Ayinger Urweisse (Ur-Weisse)

Ayinger Urweisse (Ur-Weisse)

Additional notes 08/17/2022 500 mL bottle (pictured). Out of the gate this is a lighter colored dunkelweizen than many, even with the yeast sediment thrown in. A light amber pour with a lovely head. Head has decent retention. Plenty of banana in the tastes. Great, sweet malt base with tons of (surprising) caramel and even more banana. It feels like a 'light' dunkelweizen in some ways, but it's packed full of flavor. Alcohol is present and rounds things out beautifully. classically breaded...

Ayinger Jahrhündert Bier

Ayinger Jahrhündert Bier

Additional notes 08/06/2020 (pictured) Malts to the fore, with a real rounded biscuit note. There's plenty of honey, without the harsh, bitter finish. It's not brutal, just gentle. Original notes 08/20/05 As many others have mentioned, this is an incredibly good looking beer, with the color and clarity being close to perfect. I see a lot of other reviewers have suggested "straw" as the color. I saw a yellow/green color, almost like a pale lime green. Good pillow like head. Some biscuit yeast...

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen

Additional notes (10/01/23) - pictured. It was over eighteen years ago that I wrote the notes below. I've drunk this beer a multitude of times since, but even though those 2005 notes might seem harsh I have never really loved this beer. The head in the picture is impressive but mainly because it results from a very aggressive pour. Even that one is gone way too quickly and I would mostly stand by what I wrote below. The malts are obviously in place, and one could even say this is a classic...

Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

$8.79 Four Pack, Green's Beverage, Ponce de Leon, Atlanta, GA. Dark brown, almost black pour with a large creamy head that receded very quickly. There was almost zero lacing with this beer. The aroma I get is all chocolate fruit cake - like a Christmas cake! There is a smashing, fully rounded mouthfeel to this, with flavors of raisins and sultanas coming through strong. Lovely, warm malts round the beer. This is an exceptionally smooth beer with no harsh edges which make it very drinkable. Add...
