Into the Westmalle chalice she goes, bottled April 7th 2022, Best Before 2 years from that date. Had this beer several times since May of 2021 when I used it to christen the re-launch of this blog. Honey colored, clouded pour with a great head out of the bottle. Thin, persistent folio on the surface, and some thinnish, clinging lace. Nose gives up some simple malts, maybe a little honey or banana, but it's pretty muted. Opens a little on warming of course. Mouthfeel is extraordinary...

Additional notes: Over time this has become my favorite Dubbel by light years, but mainly because it doesn't have many of the characteristics of many others in the style, especially the appearance. The beautiful, deep red clarity on it belies the so typical, dirty dishwater appearance for many others in the style. There's also a light, fruitless that comes with this beer that for me, places it in a category I might call "Light Quad" or "Light BDSA" IF such a thing made any sense. Original...

I was extremely surprised by this beer, not by the quality or the general excellence- that reputation had gone before it - but by the drinkability and the creaminess. I wasn't expecting such a drinkable beer considering the style and the ABV. Some spice in the aroma and initial tastes that fades quickly to give way to a class ale.
