A feature of the Wipers beers appears to be these thick, dense, sumptuous heads. This is no exception. Retention and lace both good.
It’s a gold body, darker than many a Tripel. Atypical in many respects.
The nose is surprisingly nondescript. A relatively bland malt base. This is reflected in the tastes too. This basically drinks as an Amber. In and of itself that doesn’t bother me, but in style terms this isn’t great. In fact, as a, Tripel I’d go as far as to say that it’s poor. There is some light bitterness in the far back end which also finishes with a light burst of alcohol.
I have to say after being really impressed with the Blond, this is a whole different experience. It’s not a bad beer to drink per se, but it’s not a very good Tripel at all – at least not for me. It’s a little bland and not Tripel-like at all. That always irks me, and this was a big let down after the success of the Blond.
