Weihenstephaner
Helles

Canned version, sold with the stein (pictured) in a gift pack in 2022. $10.99 for the combo.

Right now I am somewhat unconvinced that this is a different beer to this one, but the ABVs are different (this at 4.8%, the Original at 5.1%) and they must be different since the German version of the website lists both beers! (Thanks @robsterowski for the heads up on that).

However, when I look at my notes on the Original, all of the same attributes apply, especially in the appearance and the nose. Very light in color, and clean edges on the aroma. Why they need two Helles that look and taste like this in relation to one another is lost on me, so I suspect this is a marketing ploy, and involves canning and the dumb US market. Grrr …

Simple malts, light skunk elements, and drinks like nobody’s business. Clean as a whistle, the malt base is sharp and without fuss. This beer is what it is, and for now that’s about it. In the meantime please reference the Original notes, and we’ll see if this is really no more than some stealthy re-packaging and a beer that has been tweaked to the tiniest degree.
