Likely irrelevant and unfair, it’s probably still worth saying that I like this beer much, much more than the original strong ale. Different things? Sure, but nevertheless an inevitable, if not a particularly valid, comparison.
This really is a golden colored beer. There’s some chill-haze. Decent head, not a huge amount of retention, but the color is pretty.
Mouthfeel is quite rich if not exactly creamy per se. It’s a feature of the beer for me.
There’s a sweet, light bitterness that manifests itself has a kind of creamy grapefruit. It’s very smooth, very even, and very tasty. There is a ton of flavor in this beer which is somewhat typical of a well-made, English, 5% beer. Lovely malt balance among the simple, reserved bitterness.
Some mineral elements in water backbone that you would expect, this feels very English and reminds me a little of the OG English Golden, Summer Lightning.
In summary, very tasty, better than the strong ale, and one I would seek again.
