Trappist Achel 8° Bruin

Additional notes 09/13/23 (Pictured)

I’ve drunk this a 100 times since those original notes from 17 years ago, but with the recent changes in the status of the brewery I wanted to go back and make some extra visits.

It’s ASTONISHING to me have those original notes are so out of whack with what I see in the appearance today. Now I ave a crystal clear, beautiful garnet/burgundy body with a fantastic head with great retention. Smell and taste are MUCH more reminiscent of a pure BDSA, so much so that I have to check the label multiple times to ensure I was indeed drinking the 8 Bruin – I was.

Sumptuous raisin and other dark fruits, smooth as silk.

Original notes 07/31/06

Dirty tea like color, with a huge amount of filthy brown yeast sediment. As usual with a Dubbel, not very attractive to me. Very fizzy (loud) out of the bottle, but the head disappears quickly.

Excellent, sweet alcohol and caramel aroma. Tastes are just the same, sweet caramel, but with a warming alcohol finish and a bit more of a watery feel than I was expecting.

Dry alcohol finishes quickly.
