Nice pick up from TJ’s, always glad to see an authentic beer in the mix over there.
Pour is a mid-orange, so moves away from Festbier and more to an Americanized Märzen version. Head is fine, lace and retention are moderate, definitely could be better.
This is an extraordinarily bready beer both on the nose and in the taste. No issue with that, but the baked malt notes game here is VERY strong. Mouthfeel is standard, and the carbonation appropriate. The beer drinks smoothly and has a simple presence in terms of the malts, again an appropriate low bitterness for the style. That bread! – it just keeps on coming.
If that baked bread note is something you are seeking, then this is the beer for you. Not really sure that the moniker Festbier should be adorning the can, but I’m also not too bothered by that. Decent beer in the Märzen/Ofest category, and tremendous value too.
Try it, I would; I did!
