Tongerlo Bruin
3.85 out of 5.00 | Good

Big, rocky, tan head on top of a dark brown body. Lace is great. Is it a Belgian Dark or a Dubbel? I’m going with the latter for now.

This starts off a bit roasty and stout-like. Eventually it backs off a bit, gets back to it’s Dubbel roots, and then delivers an esy drinking, well-balanced experience.

There’s a touch of acidity early, but this backs off mid-palate to give a malty, slightly almond or marzipan based finish. A full feel in the mouth, but a surprisingly smooth finish. Drier in the finish that one might expect.

I’m not a huge fan of Dubbels under normal circumstances, but this one works well. It seems balanced and easy drinking which isn’t always the case. It’s cleaner than many Dubbels, and it seems a little sweeter in the middle palate than some harsher beers in the style.
