Corked & caged usual Ommegang packaging with a healthy pop on opening.

If I am honest my expectations for this series went from high to almost nothing. That’s been a blessing, because the average nature of this beer saves me from being disappointed.
Pretty pour. Jet black body with a strong, mocha, mid-thick head. Retention and lace are good, it looks good in the Ommegang chalice.
Nose has a little bread without much else.
Some light, fruity acidity. Carbonation is nice, but as for it being a ‘dark’ saison, I dunno. To me it drinks like a slightly lower ABV Belgian Dark with extra yeast. A little spice in the finish but not much and the herbal notes dominate rather than spice.
The back end as a little dark licorice and it lingers slightly to suggest more hops than I first thought. Yeastiness lacking for me – disappointing.
I don’t dislike it per se but, whatever. Another average beer in a dreadfully disappointing series.
Dark Saison.
