The Dissident (2019 Reserve)

2019 Reserve. Bottled 7/17/2019.

Don’t know if I remembering correctly but I thought this used to come in 750 mL bottles. Anyway …

500 mL, deep, antique red colored wax. Capped.

Bright looking orange brown pour which creates a decent, if light head with an aggressive pour. Some film remains, with a little lacing. As good, if not better than expected given the style.

Plenty of oaky, musty acidity in the nose.

Puckering, tight acid hits early, but paradoxically backs off but then lingers and accumulates. Also oddly, it’s somewhat persistent but it does smooth out. Cherries are an irrelevance, but the oak is not. As expected, warming changes this dramatically and brings a bunch of other stuff to the fore. More oak and the dryness associated with it, a hint of fruit (somewhat undefined, and again not cherry related), and a bit of funk punching through the acid – but only a bit. Alcohol is well-hidden, no solvent off flavors here.
