Fantôme Straight West
Coast Ghostin’

Light, golden hazed pour with a white head that when forced out of the bottle, is good. Decent retention, some lace.

There’s a lot of raw cereal malt in the nose.

Tastes are really clean with a strong lime undercurrent. Really light with some underlying funk but it’s not strong. It’s slightly light for a Fantôme beer in all respects. Mouthfeel is thinnish, and the beer exudes a serious cereal note with that persistent lime background. Definitely citrusy, zesty and sharp, but this is not a particularly funky beer, nor does it exhibit much of the characteristic, Fantôme herbal notes. Alcohol nowhere to be seen. Bright, limey and light, but not at all a quintessential Fantôme inspired beer for me.

There’s also a LOT of classic, Berliner Weisse character here but without the (sometimes) overwhelming bitterness.

IMO not quintessentially Fantôme, Even in the many collaborations you usually have Dany’s fingerprints all over the place, but this is one beer where I don’t feel that’s the case. Easy drinking, enjoyed it, but not “weird” enough for hardcore Fantôme fans I think.
