Sweetwater Spinnerbait

12oz single from the six pack.

Not sure that I’m keen on the Belgian Style Red Ale moniker, but this is what I have to live with in America. On the plus side, this beer does drink like a Lightly hopped American red that has been made with Belgian yeast. I can live with that.

A mid to dark reddish brown body with good clarity, and a off-white semi-dense head. Some lace.

Looks like a typical English Bitter if the truth be known. Satisfying on the eye.

The Belgian yeast is all over the nose with some eatery elements and more than a touch of bubblegum.

Tastes reflect the nose with a slightly happier element than they might otherwise suggest. Drier than expected finish goes hand in hand with that.

Yeasty fruits, and a definitive moreish Belgian character persists and pervades. Sweetness and more than a touch of spice that reminds me of a Wit or similar brew.

I like it. Not exactly traditional, but this is one of the few marriages of bedfellows from different parts of the beer globe that works well.
