12 oz bottle, over 12 months old, with the usual New Glarus, Unplugged presentation with red foil on the neck, plus the neck label.
Deep, dark pour, surprisingly dark in fact with real mahogany look to the beer.
Tremendous smoke on the nose, really ‘hammy’. Not quite backed up in the tastes unfortunately, but the combination of lighter rye and smoke work well together. I’m not a rye fan, but in the context of the smoke this works better for me than many other rye beers. It’s a little light in the mouth for a smoked beer too. I want some more ooommmfff.
The alcohol is nowhere to be seen, and it’s hard to beleive this comes in at 8.5%.
The smoked malts apparently come from Bamburg and Chilton, WI! Bottled conditioned.
