Schönramer Gold
4.02 out of 5.00 | Very Good

I have absolutely no idea what’s going on with this beer. To me it feels like a confusing mix of styles, but in the end none of that took away from the enjoyment, it really is very tasty.

Apparently a Festbier, it has elements of German pilsner, a wheat ale, and other fruity character that might suggest that this isn’t a lager at all. It certainly is Gold in color, and a lightly hazed gold at that. Has Hefeweizen looks. The head feels like it should be way better than it is, although the mouthfeel is quite creamy and full. Paradoxes abound.

Clean, drinkable and very tasty in equal measure, the beer offer sup a strange combo of tastes for me. It’s bready and also has some fruity character about it. Not exactly banana hefeweizen elements, but some very light, citrus and apple.

It’s really, really hard to characterize this beer, and to think that I did a good job of describing it, but I guess that ultimately all that matters is that it’s tasty, drinkable, and that I would be happy to have another.
