Where to start?
In a nutshell this is basically the bazillionth American, hop forward beer. Ultimately it drinks like nothing other than an American IPA, and regardless of the silly marketing monikers that any brewery wants to slap on their products, ‘IPL’ means ‘IPA’.
It’s a good looking beer with a medium copper hue and a nice rocky he’d that has decent retention and lace. The nose has a large, earthy happiness to it. It reminds me a Willamette hop presence, and that’s not my favorite.
I’ll give you that the beer is a little lighter than some IPAs, but to be honest it’s still a hop-forward beer that drinks EXACTLY like an earthy IPA. Ultimately I see no distinction here between this ‘IPL’ and an American ‘IPA’.
Given this is part of their Hopology series, you can see my point.
Weary, that’s the word to describe these American beers.
