1 pint bottle from the brewery last month.
Pale golden color with a simple, white head. Nice lace.
Lovely, wine-based nose. The nose also has a surprising level of sweet, bready malts. This is carried through to the tastes which initially feel very sweet indeed. This backs off pretty quickly to reveal a vinous, oaky note (as expected). Light and quick in the mouth, with some fruit elements. Quite floral. There’s almost an artificial ester note too, which sounds like it might not be good, but at the same time has a bit of an allure. It’s very hard to describe TBH – maybe some artificial strawberry or raspberry notes. Odd. Ultimately I suppose this is the Chardonnay element from the French Oak, but it’s a little muddled at worst, just confusing at best.
Alcohol feels nothing like the advertised 7.4%.
Dry finish, appropriately, and the beer feels quite easy but with some real depth.
