Saison
DE LA SENNE

11.2oz bottle, BBD: 23MAR28. Not sure if that makes this a 2023 vintage or not … more research required.

Lovely, lightly hazed orange color with a great head that is beautifully formed and retained. Nice lace.

Nose offers some significant, yeasty based funk that was a little surprising. The same is true of the tastes, with some significant acidity and a decent, if not exactly bracing, tangy note. Lovely prickle on the mouthfeel that makes the beer lively. Lightly puckering finish. Lots and lots and lots of cooking apples (Bramley’s) and Granny Smith in the front end, middle and back end. Very strong in that department.

I was a little taken aback by this to be honest. i wasn’t expecting the level of pucker and funk that I got. De La Senne beers are routinely beautifully and delicately brewed, but they are as seldom as edgy as this one.

Lovely beer that took me a little by surprise, despite the noted ‘Barrel-Aged’ moniker.. More challenging than I was expecting. What a magnificent brewery they are.
