Thanks go out to Lance for sharing this one at The Brick Store on a Friday afternoon. 750 mL corked & caged.
Nice orange pour with a minimal head. Has the look of a classic Belgian Pale but without the high rocky head that I would like.
I’m a bit confused with this. It reminds me a bit of the Jolly Pumpkin nonense where Brett ends up in beers where it simply shouldn’t be. Here the Brett in the nose and the taste compete with the Belgian sweetness and yeast and as a result we end up with a bit of an odd beer. The total package doesn’t meld all that well for me and I end up confused and disappointed with the beer as a whole.
I dunno, drinkability suffers and I get a bit annoyed with brewers tinkering with style where it’s just NOT necessary. VERY infrequently do we get a major success and more often than not we end up with an unhappy marriage.
One of the poorest Lost Abbey efforts for me.
