Pretty, dense orange color. Cloudy with a nice head. Retention is less than average but nice collar.
Very funky in the nose-surprisingly so.
The beer is very nicely balanced. More depth than a typical BW with some significant fruit and great tartness. Unlike some fruit infused beers of any style, this one actually is true the addition. It actually feels like rhubarb and I could actually distinguish it in the beer. That’s unusual for me.
It obviously helps that rhubarb’s unsweetened general taste is excactly the same as the type of profile that we want from a BW, but nevertheless.
Funk and tartness bounce off one another well, and the beer is tasting, lively, balanced and has a real presence that some American versions of the style sometimes lack. Perfect mouthfeel to complement things.
Finishes a little dry which is perfect, almost with a champagne like quality.
WOW excellent. Bottled 10/25/13 4% apparently with strawberries too, maybe that’s the source of the real, fruity element?
