Pour is a sweet looking, golden beer with a substantial white head. The beer head does not have great lace but it has good retention.
Nose is full of rusty orange peel and some nondescript spicy notes. The beer is definitely all about a Witbier from the nose.
Tastes pull the beer back toward an IPA profile. The IPA is one that is quite soft but with a decent bitterness. It shy’s away from a grapefruit profile and swings firmly into tangerine territory. A touch of lemongrass – although not strong – there is plenty of herbal notes that are more savory and sweet, and Boulevard characterizes this a sage. They also mention clove (that I get some of) and bubblegum (which for me is largely absent).
Mouthfeel is smoother than most and it offers some drying aggression in the back end. Drier than I was expecting, in fact.
I dislike the White IPA moniker much more than I like the beer, but having said that I still think it’s a really nice beer.
