Never seen the TV program, but always excited by a new Ommegang beer.
Disappointed by the first in this Game of Thrones series, so maybe this will work for me a little better. Big pop on opening, lots of gun smoke.
Pour is an excellent one with a lovely rich body and a solid, coffee colored head.
Some really strong tastes up front. There is a lot of big, bold and dry licorice notes up front. Quite noticeable. Looked up the beer on the Ommegang web site, and there it is – licorice root.
Carbonation is a little prickly.
I’d have liked the first beer in the series to be have been better, but this one make up for it quite a lot. There’s a real presence about this beer which is surprising given the relatively sensible ABV. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, but the beer still packs a punch and lets you know that it’s around.
Plenty of roast roundness and some fairly significant punch in terms of the tastes. More licorice comes through.
There is not much Belgian character here and I would curious as to the yeast used.
