No Salvation
Brett Saison

375mL corked and caged bottle. $10.99 Tavour. Cork jammed in hard.

Despite the cork, lack of pop on opening, but still carbonated OK.

Golden, slightly clouded pour with a nice head that gives good retention and some decent lace. Looks good.

Advertised as a ‘Brett Saison’, the nose gives up a little funk, but it’s not large. That’s OK because one would expect more of that element in the tastes but it too is somewhat muted. It’s quite delicate in fact, which for me is a plus. Some drying character hangs around, and the Brett infuses a little bitterness. The gentle bitterness becomes the featured element here – it lingers – and comes with a tiny touch of lemon zest.

Pretty smooth in the mouth without a ton of carbonation – no prickle.

This might be my first beer from Anchorage Brewing, and I must admit it’s pretty good, but if you think I’m paying $100 for some shitty, barrel-aged stout then you’re dumber than you look.
