Enjoy by 08/15/13 – 2 days late! Hazed, mid golden pour with a big, frothy head that is well retained and produces some above average lace.
Nose has a decent amount of Belgian yeast, and is true to a simple Belgian Single or Blonde.
Hop bitterness is there, but very light. It’s not an aggressive Belgian IPA by an stretch of the (American) imagination, so in that respect the name is perfect – that’s pleasing. In fact, it’s closer to what I imagine a BELGIAN would think of as a ‘Hoppy Belgian Style Blonde’. Interesting.
Some sweet ester break across the tongue. A slightly drying, bitter finish develops and adds interest. More yeast, but fairly low in terms of its assertion. Yeast element grows with time. Nice lively mouthfeel and a tasty experience.
Enjoyable and full of simplicity.
In truth, there have been quite a number of really good and decent beers in this series.
2nd bottle purchased at Highland Beverage, Hiram, GA ALSO with same enjoy by date but bought on 08/05/14! Exactly one year later.
Lots of chunky yeast sediment. A little oxidation, but the flavor profile is not a great deal different one year on.
