Maredsous 10 – Triple

Additional notes 04/19/24 (pictured)

These days the “10” moniker in the name is missing, although the beer still comes in at 10%.

The pour seems darker than in the past. Head is still as amazing as it ever was, and when it settles it forms a hugely, creamy, almost nitro like foam – a real feature of this beer.

Plenty of soapy alcohol and a alcohol bite in the finish. It’s a little more earthy than many Tripels, and doesn’t feel quite as spicy or peppery as some in the style.  As such this beer feels a bit atypical for the style if I’m honest, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.

Delicious, BIG and a true Belgian monster. Love it, and I love the glass too – one of my favorite of all time.

Original notes 01/31/05

Excellent presentation with a wonderfully, light, golden color and a massive, rocky, sticky resplendent head. A lot of small bubbles make up the impressive head. Very reminiscent of Duvel to look at.

Lots of alcohol in the nose and upfront in the taste. The dominant experience here for me was a apple like, clean dryness. Like a really crunchy Granny Smith. Don’t get me wrong, there were no apples in the taste, but a distinctive clean, sharp bite to the beer that I found delicious.

Finish is undoubtably dry, and won’t suit everyone. Distinctly Belgian and very drinkable – be careful with the ABV!

A winner, another beer to savor and delight in.
