If you ever fancy a Dunkelweizen and you’re in the mood, then its best to reach for a beer from a brewery that’s getting toward 150 years old. Maisel never lets me down, and the Dunkel is no exception.
Cracking looking pour with a dark read hue and great head. Decent retention and plenty of thinnish lace.
Light banana on the nose, increasing with warmth. Tastes offer more generic fruit than I was expecting, and it never really turns into that classic, recognizable banana and bubble-gum. The finish has a pleasing, lightly spiced note that makes the beer insanely drinkable. Very tasty in the mid-palate and back-end. The final burst and light aftertaste gives a tangy bitterness.
Nice, prickly mouthfeel to make the beer seem very lively. A really lovely beer that I used to be able to get on my regular visits to South Carolina, but that I have been without for quite a while. Really pleasing to get back into this and the Kristall recently. Delicious.
