An attractive golden orange pour with a nice, light head. Wispy and soon gone, the head still leaves some nice, thin lines of sticky lace.

Nose offers a little cheesy funk underneath some orange-citrus based hops.

The tastes gives quite a bit more of the citrus element, with a nice combo of sweet and bitter that a well-balanced beer should deliver. This is not a particularly dialed-in saison for me, with the hop element being far more prominent than many in the style. There is large dose of sweetness that comes with that hop bite, so in no way is this beer ever bitter per se. High carbonation. This is very clean and bold, and reminds me of a slightly funky American pale ale.

To me this is atypically Saison even if it is a nice beer. A well balanced hop and malt combo that drinks with presence, this doesn’t drink much like either a saison or a Belgian of any type. Normally that would annoy me a bit, but thisis very tasty so I put my usual grumblings at such things aside for a minute.

Finish is quite hoppy and decently bitter too, with the back-end offering a little pucker. When I think about the beer more, maybe the hoppy bitterness I keep referring to is actually manifesting itself more as spicy, herbal note which would be more in line with a saison. Either way, it feels a bit more earthy as I approach the bottom of the 330 mL bottle.

Complicated and complex this is NOT a simple saison by any standards, but it is an interesting one. Definitely worth a try, especially if you are seeking a bit of a excursion and something that offers a really rustic, earthy depth. Very tasty.
