330 mL single. Blue Ridge Brew Hub, Waynesville, NC.
Beautiful, red bronze pour with clarity and cleanliness that is striking. White head. some lace.
Nose offers a ton of predictable caramel notes.
Caramel up front immediately in the tastes too. A very, very light roast note, but this is muted appropriately. Malts of course, are all over the beer, and they meld perfectly. Sweet, medium bodied example, with even a touch of chocolate in there too.
Refreshing, but it is a sweet example of the style for me, or at least something that sits at the sweeter end of the spectrum. I have no problem with that, and I think it’s fine, but I like a Dunkel with a little more restrained sugar and this is not that. Very light, easy drinking.
I mean, what can I say? It’s a Hofbräu Dunkel and as such, it’s authentic. In that regard great, and it is a looker, but it’s tad sweet for me, even if well with style parameters.
