Hoegaarden Grand Cru

Hate me if you want, I love this beer.

Is this nostalgia? Partly. But it’s also a yeasty treat that hits the spot and never disappoints.

There’s plenty of alcohol, plenty of yeast, and a ton of fruit esters that hit the palate. It lingers and it builds. It’s sweet, reminds me of slightly drunken days in Belgium, and great friends.

The nose is tremendous, and it brings on the taste experience. They interlock perfectly. Again the yeast and the fruit are the characters that come together and enbrace the palate perfectly. Finishes dry and sophisticated with a ton of spice, white pepper and real depth. I think that’s the main thing for me, the depth. It feels like a substantial beer both in terms of the alcohol and the sweet, cascading ester notes. If Imperial Wits were really a style, this would be one, and one of the best. there’s a rich mouthfeel which is absolutely a huge part fo the experience.

The AB In Bev brand thing is always going to upset some people, and that’s their problem. I’m focused on what’s in the glass, and I really enjoy this beer. What’s it matter to you?
