Updated notes 07/01/25 (pictured)

Had a couple of bottles of this recently and it still absolutely rocks. Rich garnet color, a touch of licorice up front that dials back to give a rich, classically focus, raisin and malt based Belgian Dark. To me, put simply, this is not a Dubbel perse, it’s just a lovely, beautifully appointed (Strong) Belgian Dark Ale. Argue if you like, I won’t hear of it, but you’ll have argument against “Strong” as this comes in at what seems a impossibly low 6.5.

Head and lace remain strong, and the Grimbergen glass seems appropriately grand.

This is seriously underrated beer by many, but its richness tells me otherwise and it seems unfeasible that it comes in at only 6.5%.

One of the most delicious Dubbels that I have tasted in some time. Not normally one of my favorite styles, I sometimes find them lacking in depth and character, but not here.

Almost reminded me of a Dopplebock, wuth loads of mixed fruits soaked in alcohol. Fantastic looking, dark brown pour with a lovely, large head that lasts wonderfullly with stacks of sticky lacing.

Very smooth and full in the mouth making this a silky experience that goes down beautifully for a great drinkability experience too.
