Mmmm … I thought I might like this, but to be honest that I was against my better judgment, and I think this is probably the Firestone Walker that breaks the camel’s back for me. All of the these blends and barrels rarely pull up anything of note, and this is honestly a sweet mess.
It’s an ugly, dishwater brown Dubbel-like pour, very unattractive. Head is small and has terrible retention. No lace. Fair enough in one regard (ABV), but the utter lack of it seems unnecessary.
Nose has sweet solvents that have some orange character.
Tastes are all brown sugar, soaked orange with added solvent alcohol. The lemon adds a little clean nature to the beer, and it comes across as one of those Old Fashioned hybrid beers. I just don’t really understand those beers, starting with Brooklyn’s, I mean if I want an Old Fashioned then I’ll have an Old Fashioned. When I want a beer, I want a beer.
Mouthfeel is less cloying than one might expect, but the beer puts my teeth on edge with the sweetness, and I LIKE sweet beers. More orange soaked sugar and alcohol finish it out. It drinks like a badly made cocktail.
Rough.
