Faros are tricky beers. They can feel unsophisticated, and to be honest the usual palates associated with the style aren’t very challenging on the face of it, but the reality is what they really require is more careful, and deeper attention.
All the classic elements are here, from the appearance to the tastes and the overall experience. A dark, golden body with some nice head and some lovely, sticky lace.
The tastes deliver an absolutely, undeniably classic Faro. Light apple sweetness with some delightfully, oh so gentle, almost imperceptible, tart elements on the rear edges of the tongue. The subtle, present and persistent light carbonation does its job to complete the package.
The best Faros offer elements that are simultaneously caught between cider, light champagne, gentle sweet and sour, and they should deliver a depth of character and dry finish that literally no other style can deliver. There are often some earthy elements too that are reminiscent of Bière de Gardes. This beer is one of the best examples of the style. There’s so much flavor in this beer it’s really staggering.
So drinkable, so moreish and so perfect.
