Mid-range orange pour after an encouraging pop on removing the cork. Beautiful, beautiful pitted head, Stunning retention and lace on the second and the third pour. Oh my gosh.
Initial impressions are that of a great mellow bitterness, smooth and easy drinking, some light spice and oddly reminiscent of a Rochefort 6. Eventually the spicy notes and bitter bite do build, but it takes a while and prior to that the beer feels very light and drinkable. Continuing down the bottle … some soapy bitterness …
The bitterness constantly grows and then mellows out to produce a light, spiced finish.
Mouthfeel is medium and feels lively and fresh. Small bubbles, creamy – that’s a Rochefort 6 ‘thing’ too. The beer is mostly stingy, light bitterness that knows its place. It leaves a dry, bitter finish. Delicious.
As I said above, oddly there’s a ton of Rochefort 6 about this, but it’s just a bit more aggressive. Rochefort 6 on steroids with a little added spice. Great beer.
thank you for this fine description !
