Fantôme is of course, a confusing ‘thing’, period. So many highs, the occasional low, the journey is ever interesting, never dull. When things go up and down so much, it’s great to get back to basics with Saison, It’s such an amazing beer in terms of its simultaneous complexity and simplicity. The pour is second to none with the orange body and the rocky head.
Soapy funk permeates every pore of the beer, and the bitter and sweet backbone compete for ones attention. Drying g bitterness lingers in the back end.
Original notes 08/02/06
Capped and corked 750 mL bottle. Poured into the oversized wine glass. Hazed and clouded orange body with a delicious looking head. The head is dense and deep with wonderful retention and lacing.
The usual funk and rustic manure type smells and apples in the initial up front tastes. Lots of dry, pineapple in the nose and the taste, in fact all around a little drier than I expected.
Drinkability is high, and before I know it the 750 mL has gone. Tasty, refreshing and creamy.
