Fantôme DOUBLE BLAiREAU de Hotton
3.98 out of 5.00 | Good

Fantôme’s Double Badger, as part of the Fantôme Animals friends Project. lot 12 05 b 24 best before end 2027.

The usual corked and capped presentation.

Lovely, rich orange color on the pour with the broken, wispy head that one might expect. Some lace. Color is richer than I expected.

The nose has some sweetish, light phenols. The beer drinks a little bit sweeter than I thought it would given the small burst of bitterness that comes from the first tastes. After that, the beer has a very easy drinking feel, smooth and simple, with a ‘sweeter than expected’ palate especially on the middle and back-end.

Mouthfeel is quite thin, but it seems to match the palate – I dunno, a bit weird this one. In the back end, and with an increase in temperature, this almost feels fruity. I’m digging the fruit element here which is quite different for Dany.

Double Blaireau is definitely a departure, but as ever there are characteristic Fantôme notes all over it. Sweeter and softer than most of Dany’s beers, it exudes a light touch which again is not a normal signature.
