Best Before End 2020.
Healthy pop on opening, with an initially high, white, wispy head that dissipates quite quickly. Not a lot of lace, but a thin film left on the surface of the beer. Deep orange colored body.
Nose is all marmalade with some grapefruit that then gives way to a lot of floral character.
Tastes follow the nose with signature, Cinzano Bianco herbal notes.
Quite bubbly and lively in the mouth that build to give a slightly carbonated taste amongst the herbal elements. Marmalade, orange zest is forward, but the back end has the bitterness I was anticipating and the classic blend of herbs that have Dany’s fingerprints everywhere. It has some Orval reminiscence. Dry lingering aftertaste.
The finish is exquisite with even more of the blend of spice and herbal notes and a final flourish of orange zest bitterness.
Wow, delicious and it feels so fresh even at this age. Brilliant beer, delighted to have been lucky enough to try it. Classic Fantôme, untouchable, unrepeatable and just a thing of beauty.
