Elder Brett

22oz bomber (a relative rarity these days shamefully), $11.00 from Brew Ridge Beer Hub Waynesville, NC.

Label somewhat confusingly adds the moniker Season-Brett Golden Ale. Release #2 (or maybe 3), the text is smudged, and that seems confusing in terms of dates as well. Anyway, maybe DEN#3275 has some meaning.

Pour is a straw golden body with a fizzy head that dissipates to nothing immediately.

Nose and tastes follow a single, sour, tart formula, with clean green apple edges and not much else. That sounds a bit damning, but it’s not meant to be, it’s rather that the beer is fairly one-dimensional. Not too much complexity for me, just a simply executed Brett based beer. There’s very little funk in my opinion, just tartness, and that’s a bit disappointing. Alcohol is nowhere near the 9.4% for me, and the quenching natiure of the beer is good.

I dunno, I’m looking for a little less tart and a little more funk, and a more complicated beer. Nothing wrong with it, just that I wanted something more, something a little different and it wasn’t here.
