Typical Duvel high, white cloudy head sits atop an atypical Duvel body. This beer is unfiltered and that’s the overwhelming note on the appearance. A really quite beautiful, golden, cloudy, yellow body is found in the glass. Great looking.

Light, bready alcohol on the nose as I would expect.

Some lemony citrus greets the palate before the beer evens out a bit to a more familiar Duvel taste. The alcohol is definitely present, but simultaneously light and peppery. There are some pear-like notes and the Duvel yeast presence is pretty unmistakable. Muted sweetness and a lightly acidic finish with some more yeasty, ester-like notes.

Drying in the finish as expected. Definitely softer in the mouth than regular Duvel as the carbonation is more pillowy than the original. Tasty and enjoyable.

I like it – actually really like it, BUT at the price point it makes little sense when compared to regular Duvel. I wouldn’t mind paying a small premium, but this is a 100% markup on the original and that’s a tough sell as much as I enjoyed the beer. Then again it’s only money, if I saw it again I would probably buy it …
